Team Wimmer Werk Motorsport has confirmed a four-car campaign for this year’s ADAC TCR Germany series, expanding on its two outings into the championship last year.
The Austrian team entered two events at the Hockenheimring and Red Bull Ring in 2020, fielding a trio of CUPRA León Competicion cars for Felix Wimmer, Günter Benninger and Christian Voithofer.
Wimmer himself claimed the outfit’s best result, finishing in sixth in the first race at the Hockenheimring.
Previously the team has focussed more on TCR Italy, with Felix Wimmer completing five events in 2019, including claiming a victory at Mugello.
For 2021, the team will continue with its three new CUPRA cars, whilst also fielding an Audi RS3 LMS.
Austrians Benninger, 60, and Voithofer, 43, will continue with the team in CUPRA machinery. The Audi acquired by the team will be raced by Austrian Peter Gross, 57, who raced with the tema in TCR Italy in 2018 and 2019.
“We’re looking forward to the challenge and want to get the most out of all four cars,” said Team Principal Max Wimmer.
“The two guest starts in 2020 have shown that we feel comfortable in the ADAC TCR Germany and want to prove ourselves there.
“We tried out a lot, got to know the car a lot better and were able to get rid of the ‘teething problems’.
“The driver we are still talking to should, in the future, race for the championship or at least for the top. With the other three, the full focus of the trophy evaluation applies.”
