Teddy Clairet said he was ‘so happy’ after taking a season-best second place finish in the first race at Jarama.
Clairet had started the race alongside eventual race winner Mikel Azcona on the front row of the grid, but had to settle for second place in the opening race of the day with the Spaniard pulling away from the rest of the chasing pack.
“I had a tough race because of the tricky conditions, but it was the same for everyone,” commented the Team Clairet Sport driver.
“There were two safety car periods and it wasn’t easy to deal with them and to restart from zero twice.
“Even though the track seemed wet, we went for slick tyres and it was difficult to look after their temperature when we were behind the safety car.”
Clairet had also been initially set to line-up one position ahead of his brother Jimmy, but the latter was excluded from qualifying after a post-session technical infringement that saw him dropped to the back of the field.
The French driver was also quick to praise his rival who finished ahead of him and he added: “Mikel was very fast today.
“(He was) faster than us, so there are no regrets for what is a good result for me is.
“My best result in the season. I’m so happy, I’m happy for the qualifying and for race one too and we will see what’s happening in the second race.”
