Target Competition’s John Filippi admitted that the final weekend of the 2020 TCR Europe season will be ‘very interesting’ after he took third place in the second race at Spa.
Filippi, who had been in second before a move on the last lap of the race by Tom Coronel, was happy with his result on Saturday afternoon and also praised both the Dutch driver and race winner Mikel Azcona.
“It (the race) was very good,” said a happy Filippi. “I was fighting with WTCR drivers and both of them know the cars and the track very well.
“It was a very good pace for them but also for me; I was in front with them in really tricky conditions.”
The Frenchman, as like with the two drivers ahead of him, made the correct choice when it came to tyres for the damp second race of the weekend and he added: “For sure, the choice of the tyres was the best one – I did a mix of slicks at the front and wets at the rear.
“At the beginning I was struggling a little bit because I think full wet tyres was the best choice, but after the safety car my choice was better and at the end, I think full slicks would have been better again.”
Heading to the season finale in two weeks’ time, Filippi is now third in the championship after moving past both Nicola Baert and Dan Lloyd in the Drivers Standings, but he commented that he’s happy to just be in the hunt for the title.
“I haven’t looked at the points situation yet, but just a few drivers are able to win the championship now,” added Filippi.
“I have to keep up my performance, so I still have a chance right up until the end of the very last race.”
The final two rounds of the 2020 TCR Europe season are set to take place at Jarama between November 6-8.
