Adam Morgan joked that he would ‘lose some sleep’ for the way in which he lost the lead of the final British Touring Car Championship race at Snetterton.
Morgan had started the reverse-grid race from the front row alongside pole-sitter Chris Smiley, but the Mercedes driver jumped into the lead at the start when Smiley made a poor getaway.
The Ciceley motorsport driver’s lead would be short-lived however, as an equally fast-starting Ollie Jackson pounced on Morgan at Turn 4 on the first lap.
Morgan defended the inside line, but a confident Jackson simply drove around the outside of Morgan and remained in the lead for the rest of the race despite continual pressure from the 31-year-old zand Rory Butcher in, for much of the race, third.
Despite missing out on the win, Morgan was pleased with his overall weekend performance, which had also included a seventh and ninth in races one and two respectively.
“That was pretty tough,” admitted Morgan after the final race. “The car was a little bit loose through Turn 1, so normally that’s a good corner to set somebody up to overtake into Turn 2, but when you just haven’t quite got the grip through T1, I left myself pretty open for attack from Rory.
“It’s a mega result for the boys. The team have worked faultlessly this weekend. The car has been absolutely on it, so I’m just really chuffed for everyone at Carlube and Ciceley Motorsport.
“Ollie is a strong defender – he knows what to do with the car and where to put it. He drove faultlessly, didn’t make a mistake.
“That move around the outside of me at Turn 4 on the first lap – I’ll lose some sleep over that tonight.
“But overall it’s been a really good weekend and well done to Ollie.”
