The FIA World Touring Car Cup has confirmed its full-season entry list for the 2020 season, with 20 drivers contesting the full six-event campaign in Europe, with wildcard drivers joining on an event-by-event basis.
The 20 full-season entries will collectively drive for seven different manufacturers, with 12 countries represented on the grid.
Impressively eight of the drivers are under the age of 25, whilst there are also four FIA world title winners in the line-up.
Reigning champion Norbert Michelisz will return to defend his title in the BRC Racing-run Hyundai, with experienced Italian Gabriele Tarquini once again acting as the Hungarian’s team-mate.
Lynk & Co Cyan Racing will field four cars, with just one change to their driver line-up, as Uruguayan Santiago Urrutia joins Yvan Muller, Yann Ehrlacher and Thed Björk in the blue cars.
The publication of the entry list comes after series promoter Eurosport Events, together with the FIA, re-opened full-season entries after the calendar was cut back to six events, all in Europe, and a delayed September start.
The interest has thus remained strong, despite the complications caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Four drivers – Jack Young, Luca Engstler, Gilles Magnus and Bence Bolizs, will be eligible for the new FIA Rookie Award, for drivers under the age of 23 with experience of no more than two WTCR events.
The WTCR Trophy for independent drivers has six eligible entrants: rookie racers Boldizs and Magnus, as well as Jean-Karl Vernay, Nathanël Berthon, Tom Coronel and Gábor Kismarty-Lechner.
The wildcard entries for next weekend’s season opening event at Circuit Zolder in Belgium are expected to be revealed on Monday.
