Home racer Robin Frijns topped the times in the second free practice session for the DTM at Assen in The Netherlands, as Audi again occupied the top four spots at the top of the timesheets.
Frijns was quickest after just over six minutes of the half-hour session, posting a lap of 1 minute 23.547 seconds to go almost seven tenths faster than the pace in the morning’s longer session.
The Dutchman didn’t improve thereafter, as drivers switched their focus to runs looking at tyre management and strategy.
Series leader Nico Müller was second quickest, just over two tenths adrift of his team-mate, whilst the morning’s pace-setter, Loïc Duval, was third, having improved his lap from earlier in the day by three tenths.
Reigning champion René Rast was again fourth quickest, but almost eight tenths away from the pace.
BMW’s Philipp Eng was the Munich marque’s best driver in fifth, the only other driver within a second of the pace.
Austrian Lucas Auer put his BMW M4 sixth in the timesheets, ahead of Timo Glock, the best BMW earlier in the day, in seventh.
BMW Team ART’s Robert Kubica was an impressive eighth, marking a rare entry into the top ten for the Pole.
BMW drivers completed the top ten, with South African Sheldon van der Linde in ninth and German two-time champion Marco Wittmann in tenth.
Qualifying for race one takes place at 10:40 CEST (09:40 BST) on Saturday.
