BMW’s Marco Wittmann and Audi’s Nico Müller shared the joint fastest time in the first DTM free practice session at the Nürburgring Grand Prix circuit, with BMW’s Timo Glock in third.
For the second time in as many days, a touring car session ended with the fastest driver’s sharing the top time.
As usual in recent DTM first practice sessions, most drivers focussed on longer runs in the 45-minute session, meaning the top times came in the first 15 minutes.
Wittmann was first to post his time of 1 minute 48.113 seconds after around ten minutes, with Müller following with an identical time just five minutes later.
Glock’s third made it an encouraging sign for BMW, whilst Audi’s Robin Frijns was fourth, 0.264 seconds adrift.
Audi’s Jamie Green was the last driver within half a second of the pace in fifth.
Loïc Duval was sixth in his Team Poenix RS5, ahead of team-mate Mike Rockenfeller in seventh.
The top ten was completed by Austrian trio Philipp Eng (BMW), Lucas Auer (BMW) and Ferdinand von Habsburg (WRT Audi).
Second practice is scheduled for 16:30 CEST (15:30 BST).
