Audi’s Loïc Duval set the pace in the first DTM free practice session at Assen in The Netherlands, heading up an Audi 1-2-3-4 ahead of championship leader Nico Müller.
Frenchman Duval posted his best lap of 1 minute 24.293 seconds in the first 15 minutes of the 45-minute session, ending up three tenths ahead of his Swiss rival.
Dutch local Robin Frijns was third fastest, just under four tenths adrift of the pace, ahead of reigning champion René Rast in fifth, 0.558 seconds off the pace, in a session where most drivers focussed on longer race-distance runs.
Timo Glock was BMW’s best driver in fifth, almost eight tenths off the pace, ahead of Philipp Eng in sixth.
Audi’s Jamie Green was seventh, ahead of a quartet of BMW drivers, with Marco Wittmann in eighth, and South Africans Sheldon van der Linde and Jonathan Aberdein in ninth and tenth respectively.
Lucas Auer put his BMW 11th in the times, ahead of fellow Austrian Ferdinand von Habsburg’s Audi in 12th.
Just over two seconds covered the field, with WRT Audi driver Harrison Newey slowest of all in 16th.
Second practice is scheduled to get underway at 15:40 CEST (14:40 BST).
