Dušan Borković has confirmed that he will take part in the 2020 TCR Eastern Europe series in a Hyundai i30 N TCR prepared by M1RA, as the Serbian driver cites logistics as his reason for racing closer to home.
Borković competed in the TCR Europe series in 2018 and for the first half of 2019, before he was banned for ‘inadmissible behaviour’ after the event at the Red Bull Ring.
Since then, the Serbian driver has competed in rallying events in Serbia, but he has now confirmed a return to TCR competition in 2020.
Borković will be reunited with the same group of engineers who he worked with in the 2015 ETCC campaign when he partners up with M1RA for the TCR Eastern Europe series, which gets underway at Automotodrom Grobnik on 24 – 26 July.
“In these circumstances, the choice of the championship was, among other things, mostly conditioned by the proximity of my home and the realistic possibility to reach the tracks without additional complications,” explained Borković.
“This is a situation that none of us has found ourselves in so far and it took time to understand what is happening to us and to adjust our lives to these new circumstances.
“The most important thing for me is that I don’t have a competitive break this year, and again not to endanger the health of myself, my team or my loved ones.”
Following the season opener in Croatia, three further events follow at the Slovakiaring in Slovakia (21 – 23 August), Brno in Czechia (4 – 6 September) and the Hungaroring in Hungary (17 – 18 October).
“I sincerely hope that this calendar will not change and that we will be able to drive these eight races,” added Borković
“I miss the track and the competitive adrenaline. I am absolutely ready for new challenges.”
Other confirmed entries for the regional series include Jakub Wyszomirski and Sebastian Kolakowski (Wyszomirski Racing, Honda Civic Type-R FK2) and Dušan Kouřil (Janík Motorsport, Hyundai i30 N TCR).
