Experienced German tin-top racer René Münnich will join the grid for the TCR Asia Pacific Cup at the Australian Grand Prix in March, racing a Honda Civic Type-R entered by Wall Racing.
Münnich has been an irregular competitor in TCR machinery in recent years, with the 42-year-old’s last appearance being at the Sachsenring in the TCR Germany finale last year.
Prior to that Münnich took part in last year’s TCR Middle East series, in which he clinched the crown after competing against just two other rivals.
His participation will mark Münnich’s first time competing in Australia, although the former WTCC regular has previously competed at several F1-supporting TCR events, including races in Sepang and Singapore.
“I’m delighted to have this opportunity of racing in Australia, a country that I haven’t visited before”, said Münnich.
“I’m especially excited to take part in such a glamorous event that will see a top-level field racing in front of the huge F1 crowd.”
Team Owner David Wall says that the team will run three cars in total at the event, with the drivers for the other two cars to be confirmed in due course.
“It’s great to have some international flavour in our team for the Albert Park race,” said Wall.
“René has proven himself in these types of cars all around the world, and he is really eager to try his luck against what will be a very competitive TCR field.
“We have two other Honda Civics that could enter the Albert Park meeting, but we will make an announcement on those cars in the near future.”
