Robert Dahlgren to make WTCR début for PWR Racing in Macau

TCR Scandinavia champion Robert Dahlgren will make his début in the FIA World Touring Car Cup at Macau next week, racing a CUPRA for PWR Racing in place of regular driver Daniel Haglöf.

Dahlgren will stand in for Haglöf at the Swedish team and has been given the opportunity as part of his success in the Scandinavian series for the team.

“I am grateful and proud to represent the team in WTCR,” said Dahlgren. “The team has done a great job to develop the car throughout the season in both TCR Scandinavia and WTCR.

“I’m especially excited to see how our CUPRA will perform in Macau that is one of the coolest circuits in the world.”

Dahlgren last took to the Circuito da Guia street circuit in 2011, when he was competing for Volvo in the World Touring Car Championship. However, the Swede failed to start either race after a shunt in qualifying.

“Robert is a very fast and experienced driver; it will be interesting to see him racing one of our CUPRA cars at Macau alongside Mikel Azcona,” said Haglöf. “It will be a tough challenge for him, but has the experience to fight for points straight away.”

PWR Team Manager Emil Axelsson explained the rationale behind putting Dahlgren behind the wheel in Macau.

“Dahlgren and PWR have had three very successful years together in STCC / TCR Scandinavia with two first places and a second place in the driver’s championship,” said Axelsson.

“This is a way for us to give back to Robert for his strong efforts in the team. We look forward to going to Macau together and competing on the legendary city track.”
