Multiple penalties handed out after races two and three

Multiple penalties were handed out after the second and third FIA World Touring Car Cup races at Suzuka, with KCMG’s Tiago Monteiro and Tiago Monteiro the biggest losers in the aftermath of race three.

One penalty was issued in race two, with SLR’s Benjamin Leuchter being handed a post-race 1.5-second penalty for having made contact with Néstor Girolami – the penalty handing Girolami back 11^th position and putting Leuchter in 12^th.

In race three, Monteiro was given a ten second penalty for taking to the pitlane entrance on the final lap, behind the safety car. It actually lost the Honda driver third, and he crossed the finish line in fourth, but the subsequent penalty demoted him to 15^th.

Ceccon was given a post-race five-second penalty for contact with Rob Huff. The penalty dropped him from third to sixth.

BRC Racing’s Augusto Farfus was given a post-race 30-second penalty, in lieu of a drive through, for contact with Cyan Racing’s Yann Ehrlacher, dropping him to last.

Ehrlacher was also penalised for contact with Farfus, but it dropped the Frenchman from 17^th to 19^th.

Nicky Catsburg crossed the finish line in 11^th but was handed a two-second penalty for passing under the safety car, dropping the BRC driver to 14^th.

KCMG’s Attila Tassi had already been given a five-second penalty during the race for having been out of his grid box at the start of the race.

In championship terms, the penalties have moved Norbert Michelisz one point closer to Esteban Guerrieri in the drivers’ title battle.
