Rory Butcher ‘couldn’t be happier’ after perfect Saturday at Knockhill

AmD Tuning’s Rory Butcher says he “couldn’t be happier” after topping every British Touring Car Championship session at Knockhill on Saturday, including taking a maiden series pole position.

The Scot was not bettered across the pair of practice sessions, and was well over two tenths clear of Dan Cammish in qualifying –  while the next two tenths covered the remainder of the top ten – highlighting the margin he enjoyed.

He told TouringCars.Net it “doesn’t get any better” than his perfect Saturday, and was especially pleased to improve his pace in each session as the day progressed.

“Topping every single session, it doesn’t get any better than that,” said Butcher.

“We were chipping away, finding time in the car, finding time in myself.

“It’s been a great day. I’ve been waiting for a pole position all year, and we’ve finally got it. So I just couldn’t be happier.”

With Cammish for company on the front-row, Butcher is wary of the threat from Andrew Jordan at the start given the BMW racer starts third, but is encouraged by his pace and hopes he can “break away” at the front in the opening contest.

“We’ve got to take each race as it comes, in the first one obviously Dan [Cammish] isn’t going to make it easy for me, but I’ve just got to keep pushing, full attack,” said Butcher.

“The start will obviously be crucial tomorrow, and then we’ve got to just try and break away at the front. That’s the plan.

“We’ve shown great pace throughout today and it’s very encouraging for tomorrow.”

The opening British Touring Car Championship race gets underway tomorrow [15 September] at 11:45 BST.
