Team Toyota GB’s Tom Ingram secured the first pole position of the new-for-2019 Toyota Corolla in qualifying for the British Touring Car Championship at Snetterton.
Practice pacesetter Dan Cammish continued his strong form throughout the half-hour session, before Ingram pipped his time by just 0.002s with his pole lap of 1:54.737 in the final third.
Behind Cammish’s Honda was the older-shaped FK2 Civic of Sam Tordoff for AmD Tuning, the 2016 runner-up heading the third row despite being the best part of three tenths back from the front-row starters.
Snetterton tyre test topper Tom Chilton placed fourth in his Motorbase Performance Ford Focus RS, while reigning champion and standings leader Colin Turkington managed fifth despite carrying maximum ballast on his BMW 330i M Sport.
Jason Plato carried through his practice form to end up sixth in his Power Maxed Racing Vauxhall, just five-thousandths quicker than Andrew Jordan in seventh position.
Triple champion Matt Neal was eighth ahead of Adam Morgan’s Ciceley Motorsport Mercedes A-Class, while Rob Collard rounded out the top ten.
AmD Tuning’s Rory Butcher was 11th, with just four-thousandths of a second between the Scot and Ollie Jackson in 12th and Chris Smiley in 13th, with the top 13 positions all covered by a second on the Snetterton 300 layout.
Jake Hill’s Audi S3 was next ahead of Matt Simpson, who had a mixed session with a decent effort followed by an issue which left him stranded on the infield.
Notably, both Ash Sutton and Josh Cook again struggled outside of the top 15, placing 18th and 19th respectively.
The opening race of the British Touring Car Championship at Snetterton will get underway tomorrow [4 August] at 11:35 BST.
