With the chaos unfolding in the first lap of the race, being hit by M Racing’s Nelson Panciatici, Jessica Bäckman was unable to unfold her full potential in Oschersleben.
Target Competition’s Jessica Bäckman planned to turn her best Qualifying result in TCR Eurpe so far into a podium finish in the race. It looked promising for the 21-year-old until she got hit by Nelson Panciatici’s Hyundai i30.
“First of all, I am happy about the really good start I had. Going into turn one, I was ahead of the others, driving into turn two, I got hit in my door and spun. After that my race was pretty much over. Going into turn three there was water on the tack and I had a slide. Afterwads my car got broken and that was the end of my race”, she’s brining it to the point.
The Swede is rather disappointed but not angry with the race incident. “There is not much you can do if you get hit. I am now trying to put this away from me. I will look at the video to see and learn from what the other driver’s did, to be well-prepared for tomorrow. My focus is on tomorrow where I can start over all again and fifth is a solid base for that”, she said.
The TCR Europe series returns to action with race two on Sunday.
