Power Maxed Racing’s Jason Plato topped the timesheets in the second British Touring Car Championship practice session at Thruxton, pipping Team BMW’s Tom Oliphant by over a tenth.
After leading the majority of the 40-minute session, the double champion was bettered by Tom Oliphant with ten minutes to go, before improving to set a time of 1:16.414 to top the session.
That left Oliphant 0.135s adrift of Plato’s benchmark, while Ciceley Motorsport’s Adam Morgan enjoyed further practice form at the high-speed Hampshire circuit in third.
Motorbase Performance’s Tom Chilton placed fourth in his Ford Focus RS, while Andrew Jordan was once again in the top five to continue strong practice pace despite carrying 48kg of success ballast aboard his BMW 330i M Sport.
AmD Tuning’s Sam Tordoff, who suffered a suspension issue in the opening session, bounced back in the second session to finish second practice in sixth, ahead of Snetterton race winner Tom Ingram.
Championship leader Colin Turkington was next in eighth despite maximum championship ballast, while an impressive effort from Team HARD’s Jack Goff placed him ninth in the Volkswagen CC.
Ollie Jackson rounded out the top ten in the second Motorbase Ford, ahead of the Honda trio of Josh Cook, Rory Butcher and Matt Neal in 11th, 12th and 13th respectively.
Jake Hill’s Audi S3 was next, while Plato’s team-mate Rob Collard completed the top fifteen in the second Power Maxed Racing Vauxhall Astra.
Qualifying for the opening race of the British Touring Car Championship at Thruxton is scheduled to get underway later this afternoon at 15:25 BST.
