Kelly Racing has signed Andre Heimgartner as the final part of its four-car TCR Australia squad for 2019, with the New Zealander taking to the wheel of the outfit’s second Subaru WRX STi.
Heimgartner will partner Molly Taylor in one of the team’s Subarus, whilst Alex Rullo and Chelsea Angelo will race the team’s two Opel Astra TCR cars.
23-year-old Heimgartner has already raced with Kelly Racing before and has previously competed in the GT Asia series. He recently finished second at the Chang International Circuit in Thailand.
He will continue with his other racing commitments whilst getting to grips with his first foray into front-wheel drive racing.
“I’m really looking forward to getting into the new TCR Australia Series,” said Heimgartner. “It’s an interesting new category and to be given the opportunity by Kelly Racing who I already have a great relationship with is really exciting.
“All of the cars are front wheel-drive which is something new to me. I’ve only ever raced in rear-wheel drive categories so I’m looking forward to taking on the new challenge and getting to grips with a new type of race car.
“There are a lot of really high-level drivers in the category and some of them I’ve raced with before so I’m keen to get out there and start racing alongside them in Sydney this weekend.”
The TCR Australia series gets underway at Syndey Motorsport Park this weekend.
