Bathurst 1000 race winner and long-time Supercars driver Jason Bright has secured two Volkswagen Golf GTi cars to race in TCR Australia, with Bright to race one of the cars under the ‘Team Tradie’ banner.
Bright, 46, has purchased the cars from Team Engstler, which had been campaigning them in the TCR Asia series. One of the chassis won as recently as last weekend, when Diego Moran took it to victory in Malaysia.
Bright was in the Sepang paddock for TCR Asia and has put together a deal to run two of the cars in the first year of TCR Australia.
Bright’s team-mate has yet to be confirmed, whilst the outfit to run the cars has also to be confirmed.
“I’ve have been looking at the TCR Series for some time and it’s great to confirm that I will be driving in the series this year,” said Bright, the 1998 Bathurst 1000 winner.
“The class is perfect for Australia. Affordable, competitive and relevant to the current motoring market. I really feel it’s going to be a great addition to the motorsport landscape.
“I went to Malaysia on the weekend and purchased the car that actually won the weekend. I know it’s got good form, so I can’t wait to get it to Australia, have a test and get ready for Round 1.”
Bright will also be running a competition which will give one fan the chance to drive his TCR car. 32 runners-up will also get the chance to experience a hot lap at the end of the year.
“The idea behind Team Tradie was to add to the Taskforce concept that I’ve been running for a few years now. It will give anyone a chance to be involved, and possibly drive of my VW Golf.
“There will be more details and promotions to wrap around this concept and one TEAM TRADIE Member will have a chance to jump behind the wheel of our TRC VW Golf.
“We can’t say much more about it at the moment but grab your free Team Tradie Membership at https://teamtradie.taskforce.com.au and watch this space!”
Bright will get to drive his Volkswagen Golf GTi car for the first time in the coming weeks. The inaugural TCR Australia season kicks off at Sydney Motorsport Park on May 17-19.
