A 15-car entry list has been revealed for the 2019 TCR Asia series, with reigning champion Luca Engstler looking to get his title defence off to a strong start in Sepang, Malaysia this weekend.
The fifth season of the Asian regional touring car series once again gets underway at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, once again sporting an initial entry list of 15 cars.
Among the entries are six Hyundai i30 N TCR cars, with two entered by reigning champions Liqui Moly Team Engstler, and two each by new entrants Eurasia Motorsport and Solite Indigo Racing.
Two Hondas have been entered by Hong Kong-based Prince Racing, two Audis have been entered by Teamwork Motorsport and one CUPRA has been entered by each of the AlphaFactory Racing Team and the Viper Niza Racing team.
Completing the grid are three Volkswagen Golf GTi cars entered by Engstler Motorsport under the banner of Volkswagen Team Oettinger.
The biggest name to be added to the grid is that of Spaniard Pepe Oriola, who will take on a full season in TCR Asia this year after failing to secure a seat in the FIA World Touring Car Cup. Oriola will race a Hyundai i30 N for the South Korean Solite Indigo Racing team.
Further strength in the grid comes from the addition of reigning TCR China champion Alex Hui in a Teamwork Audi, whilst his team-mate David Lau is a previous Clio Cup champion in China.
Ecuadorian Diego Moran, a race winner in the 2018 TCR Asia series, will again race a Volkswagen Golf GTi TCR.
In all, four European drivers will be represented on the grid, with experienced German production car racer Roland Hertner and young Frenchman Theo Coicaud joining the grid.
Malaysian youngster Adam Khalid recently emerged victorious from the selection process to race for Engstler Motorsport in the series, after impressing during the TCR Malaysia series earlier in the year.
The first race of the season will get underway at 15:20 local time (08:20 BST, 09:20 CEST) on Saturday, with race two following at 09:50 local time (02:50 BST, 03:50 CEST) on Sunday.
