Rob Huff will race in the inaugural TCR Malaysia series race in Sepang this weekend, joining Teamwork Motorsport to compete in one of the Hong Kong outfit’s Volkswagen Golf GTi cars.
Huff has a long association with Teamwork, having worked with them since 2013 in the role of driver development and coaching as well as technical development of various race cars.
But the Brit has not yet raced under the Teamwork banner, something which will be rectified this weekend.
Huff will get the opportunity to race a TCR car on the Sepang International Circuit ahead of the inaugural visit of the FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) to Malaysia in December – and he gets around the ban on racing at circuits prior to the event due to the fact that the WTCR season has yet to begin.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to race for Teamwork Motorsport, a team I’ve worked with behind the scenes for a number of years,” said Huff.
“I first met their lead drivers Alex Hui and Sunny Wong in the year I won the title in 2012 at Macau, and we’ve become good friends and developed a number of successful projects over the years.
“After two months’ away from the wheel, I’m really looking forward to the trip to Malaysia with the team, and the aim is to get some good results.”
Although Huff is only confirmed for the first round, the team plan to continue to field the car, which won the 2018 TCR China series, in the second and third event, although the driver has yet to be confirmed.
