Jessica Bäckman is aiming to keep pace with the front in expected wet conditions for the TCR UK Touring Car Championship season finale at Donington Park today [14th October].
WestCoast Racing secured a dominant 1-2-3 qualifying result at the 1.97 mile National circuit, with Jessica set to start behind championship leader Dan Lloyd and sibling Andreas.
Her best time of 1:10.893s – crucially – starts her ahead of Lloyd’s chief title rival, Ollie Taylor.
However, Bäckman insists her focus needs to be on her own race, with the Swede set to compete in wet conditions for the first time.
“I’m very happy,” said Bäckman to TouringCars.net
“It’s my best qualifying so far, I really like this circuit because it’s very flowing and has plenty of fast corners. I’m very pleased with P3 and I think that’s the best I could do today.
“Dan has been helping me and Andreas a lot and we’ve gained 1.5 seconds from practice, and it’s my first time here at Donington Park. The team have done a very good job, and we’re happy to be 1-2-3.
“I think we all have to do our own race and not think too much. I think Dan [Lloyd] can do it all by himself and I will just try to be in the front as much as I can.
“I think it will rain as well which will be challenging, it will be my first race in wet conditions. Anything can happen, but we all have to do our own race and see how it goes.”
The opening race is set to get underway at 13:15 BST.
