Salvatore Tavano will join the TCR Europe series grid for this weekend’s races at Monza in Italy, racing the same CUPRA that he races in TCR Italy, where he is currently leading the championship.
Tavano, previously a race winner in the world Touring Car Championship back in 2006, will thus return to an international touring car grid for the first time in over 12 years.
“It’s a great personal reward,” said Tavano, who will continue to be run by the SEAT Motorsport Italia (Scuderia del Girasole) squad. “I wish to thank CUPRA Racing and SEAT Motorsport Italia for giving me this great opportunity.
“It won’t be an easy task, because we are newcomers in very competitive series, but I will do my best to put on a good show.
“We want to show off and do a good job for CUPRA Racing, but with a sense of responsibility, because we don’t have to forget that our focus is on clinching the TCR Italy title two weeks later.”
The event will also act as preparation for Tavano’s championship run-in in TCR Italy, where the season finale will also take place at Monza on the 6th and 7th October.
