Josh Files says he has ‘nothing to lose’ in the fight for the TCR Europe title, with the KCMG Honda driver trying to make up a 44-point deficit in the championship this weekend.
Files was third fastest in the second free practice session at the Dutch circuit, having earlier been tenth in first practice when he was using old tyres.
The Brit was pleased with his pace early on in the weekend, believing that the TT Circuit Assen has characteristics which suit all of the cars on the grid.
“I’m happy – I think the Honda is very good around here,” said Files to TouringCars.Net. “I think the Hyundai was always going to be good around here, and I really think the Audi will be very strong around here.
“It’s starting to show that all of the cars are starting to come closer and closer, because there is an element of twisty bits and technical bits in the first part, and then high-speed bits in the second part.”
The two-time TCR Germany champion acknowledges that he has a lot of ground to make up in the title race, with his focus being to secure the Teams’ title for KCMG and not to think about the drivers’ title at the moment.
“I’ve got nothing to lose have I, so we just have to go full attack and hope for something to happen to the others.
“At the end of the day, if you’re within mathematical chance at the last round anything can happen. It could be that Azcona and Borković could take each other out, and then all hell breaks loose.
“You just have to work on yourself and as a team, and just push to be the best you can be all of the time. That’s what we’re doing and at the end of the day the championship will sort itself out.
“At the moment we’re just fighting now for race wins and we’re trying to work together, myself and Attila, to get the Teams’ championship, because we think we have two strong drivers that can always be at the front, and we think that’s more realistic.”
