Ash Sutton would ‘love to get more involved with TCR’

Ash Sutton admits that he would ‘love to get more involved with TCR’ after a near-perfect maiden weekend in the TCR UK series saw him claim two pole positions and two race victories.

The reigning BTCC champion was on imperious form at Oulton Park, never being beaten in any of the sessions he took part in to claim a maximum points haul from the weekend.

Two wins have moved Sutton up to 11th in the drivers’ championship standings, with there being a chance that the 24-year-old could continue to stand-in for Finlay Crocker at the next event at Croft in one months’ time.

“We have topped every single practice session, qualifying race and taken every pole, even if it was unfortunate due to Carl’s incident, so for me it’s been spot on,” said Sutton to TouringCars.Net.

“I didn’t quite get the fastest lap in that last race, but we just needed to make sure the tyres lasted the duration. For example, if the safety car had come out, I still had the tyres to use at the end.

“The car has been that good that we’ve just always been a little bit in control. I would love to get door-to-door in one of these cars, and see what it’s like racing them, but until that time comes I won’t know.”

Sutton wants to explore his options for taking part in more TCR races in the future, should the opportunity present itself.

“I’d love to get more involved with TCR and I’ve enjoyed my time with Verizon Connect Racing and Pyro.

“I’d definitely come back and have a go, but it’s whether I’m welcome back – if there’s a seat available.”
