Stewart Lines disappointed after ‘one of those days’ in Castle Combe races

Stewart Lines said he had “one of those days” after he failed to finish both TCR UK races at Castle Combe, sustaining accident damage in both half-hour contests.

The Maximum Motorsport driver felt he had good pace all weekend, but failed to deliver in the races after sustaining accident damage.

In the opening race, Lines was forced to retire with radiator damage after he was collected by a spinning Finlay Crocker at Quarry Corner, who had been forced off by Jessica Bäckman.

He told TouringCars.Net he felt he was simply in “the wrong place at the wrong time” for the race one incident.

“In the first race I was just caught up in someone else’s accident, which was down to what they got up to,” said Lines.

“And I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

In the next race, Lines started near the rear of the grid after his CUPRA’s damaged radiator was amended.

He progressed to sixth position and was battling with Jessica Bäckman when the pair came to blows at Camp Corner on lap 14, bringing out the safety car.

Lines believes he was far enough alongside Bäckman for the move to work, but was disqualified post-race and received four penalty points for dangerous driving.

“In the last race and passed the Alfa Romeo then I passed the Hyundai. Then I got to the two Golf’s and Carl [Swift] who was in third and I thought well, I’ve just got to try and make a move sooner or later because I needed to get to third somehow,” he said.

“But I made a move on Jessica into the last turn, I got alongside her and she turned in. I got penalised to be fair but I thought I was alongside her but it’s one of those.

“It was one of those days really, it was only a matter of time really before I got past her and her brother.

“I should have waited another lap I suppose, I was fastest down into turn one and they were slow into there so maybe I should have waited because there it’s quite a high-speed turn.

“So that was that – not the best weekend – but the pace is good, the car is good I think next time we just need to keep it on the track!”
