M1RA Racing’s Francisco Mora took victory in the second race of TCR Europe at the Hungaroring after recovering to repass Francisco Abreu’s Peugeot.
Mora had pole position for the reverse-grid race, but lost out to Abreu on the opening lap, before getting back past his fellow countryman to take the win convincingly from local racer Dániel Nagy.
Josh Files got a great start to progress from eighth to fifth on the first lap, and would eventually make up further positions to finish third, completing the podium behind the two Hyundais.
In fourth position was Hell Energy Racing Team with KCMG stable-mate Attila Tassi, with the Honda duo scoring solid points for the team after a double DNF in yesterday’s race.
Next was Abreu, who took the lead on the opening lap at turn two whilst battling with race winner Mora and fellow Peugeot runner Julien Briché.
Behind Abreu was Target Competition teammates Reece Barr and Kris Richard, finishing ahead of Stefano Comini, who recovered from 22nd to finish an impressive eighth.
Home racer Ferenc Ficza placed ninth ahead of race one podium finisher Stian Paulsen, who completed the top ten.
Notably, the two main championship protagonists, Mikel Azcona and Dušan Borković both failed to score points, meaning Nagy closes the gap after a double podium this weekend.
Borković’s race ended prematurely after he locked up and hit the Honda of Josh Files early in the race, while repeated track limit infringements caused a drive-through for Azcona, who dropped out of the top ten.
Championship leader Azcona was not the only driver to receive a drive through for exceeding track limits repeatedly, others included Briché, Jean-Karl Vernay, Jens Reno Møller, Viktor Davidovsky and Danny Kroes.
Briché had been running strongly at the start of the race, challenging for the lead before dropping back to seventh at the time he served his drive-through.
Meanwhile, Vernay had progressed from 21st on the grid to 15th, but dropped positions before his drive-through after contact with Danny Kroes at the penultimate corner.
