Dan Lloyd feels ‘over the moon’ with race two win at Castle Combe

Dan Lloyd says he feels “over the moon” with his pace and consistency in the reverse-grid TCR UK contest at Castle Combe, in which he delivered a controlling drive to score his seventh victory this season.

The WestCoast Racing driver defended from a fast-starting Carl Swift on the opening lap to extend his gap to ten seconds before the safety car was deployed on lap 14 of the half-hour race.

He told TouringCars.Net he was very satisfied with his performance, particularly following race one in which he received a one second post-race time penalty for contact with winner Ollie Taylor.

“Really happy with that second race, especially with what’s gone on today after the first one,” said Lloyd. “I just wanted to get my head down and really show my pace.

“Even with the 60 kilos in I was able to pull the ten second gap. The safety car came out and I was a little bit nervous because I thought you know, how good our my tyres going to be.

“But I had an exact plan for the restart, and the safety car lights went out at the very end. So I had to think on my toes, slowed it down, dropped it to first, and as I weaved I went and posted the fastest lap of the race after that which gave me the gap. So I’m over the moon.”

Lloyd noted that he was especially pleased with the consistency of his pace, lapping within a few tenths of his previous laps to continue to extend his margin out front.

“It was something I was really happy about,” he said. “I was fully focused and driving really well. It was like a 1:08.4, an 8.3, 8.2, 8.3 and it’s something that’s really difficult to do so I was really happy I was able to do that.”
