Standings leader Dan Lloyd and WestCoast Racing are appealing the post-race penalty applied to his Volkswagen following contact with polesitter Ollie Taylor in race one at Castle Combe.
Lloyd, who had won the previous six races in the inaugural TCR UK season, dived down the inside of Taylor into Quarry Corner on the final lap of the opening race.
Speaking after the one-second post race penalty had been applied, Lloyd told TouringCars.Net he feels there was a gap on the inside and that Taylor decided to turn in early.
“We’re appealing the decision,” said Lloyd. “Looking at the footage over and over again, it was a late move from me but there was a clear gap there which was open.
“My opinion is Ollie saw I was coming late and he decided to turn in early, which resulted in the contact.
“There was a gap there – he should have covered it but he didn’t – and then it was a desperate move to come in at the last minute. There was a bit of contact, we both came out of the corner side by side, for me it’s touring car racing. That’s it.
“So we’re appealing it and let’s see what happens. But it’s frustrating it’s this way. We never want it to end in the Clerk’s office of course.”
Lloyd is set to start from second position for the reverse-grid contest – which starts at 15:45 – which will effectively be pole position as proviosional polesitter Darelle Wilson is not racing today due to sustaining extensive damage to his Vauxhall Astra in qualifying.
