WestCoast Racing’s Andreas Bäckman says he is “really happy” after a positive weekend at Castle Combe, in which he achieved strong results in both TCR UK races.
The weekend marked the Swedish racer’s first visit to the circuit, scoring a podium in race one after a strong start and fourth in race two once Carl Swift’s time penalty was rescinded post-race.
He told TouringCars.Net he was pleased to score solid points at the fast and flowing Wiltshire layout.
“I’m really happy it was a really good weekend in the end,” said Bäckman. “I had a really bad start in race two.
“I managed to work my way up during the race, and then I was behind. From third to eighth place was really tight because there was a lot of defending. But then in the end I managed to get through so it was a really positive weekend.
“We got some good points for the championship and some good results. It was really nice.”
The TCR Scandinavia regular feels his 2018 TCR UK campaign has been a continuous learning process, and says he is proud to have adapted to a different series with new circuits.
“I feel like I am improving every time and I’m learning more and more about the car because I’m still feeling very new to this,” he said.
“It’s about adapting to different conditions and learning, and keep learning all the time because I think I have had a quite good learning process so far.
“So I’m very proud of it.”
