THX Racing’s Stefano Comini says his Honda Civic Type R FK7 is a ‘great package’ despite scoring no points due to a contact in race one and a mechanical issue in race two at Spa-Francorchamps.
The two-time TCR International Series champion was forced to retire after contact with fellow Honda runner Josh Files in race one yesterday, before an issue with the wastegate ended his second race abruptly.
Comini was eager to take the start of the race from third on the grid, but told TouringCars.Net there was nothing he could do to resolve the issue.
“Since I started the car I felt no power,” said Comini. “And I tried to do some reset procedure, I tried everything. The team helped me on the radio but there was no way.
“We stopped on the pre-grid, we worked on the car but we didn’t find the problem. We ran a little bit to try to find the problem.
“I tried to start anyway but I didn’t know whether to go to the pit or to go on the grid. I tried the last reset, it was feeling better. And at the start I felt no power so I pulled to the side so I don’t create a problem but I really wanted to start. But that’s how it is, it’s Motorsport. It’s lovely and it’s hateful, it’s all the same things, it is how it is.”
Comini had competed in a Subaru at the Paul Ricard season opener, and missed the last round at Zandvoort before returning this weekend in the Honda.
Despite scoring zero points, Comini is pleased with the progress him and the team have made, and believes they have good potential moving forward.
“It’s not the right way to begin the season because this is a restart, it’s a new start for me and for the team,” he said.
“The potential of the car is not so bad, the BoP of the car is not so good. I hope in Hungary they will do something for the BoP and I hope it will be a little bit better. But the feeling is not bad at all and I want to thank everybody here in Spa, I have a lot of fans here.
“The feeling with the guys is amazing, they know how to work, they are really professional and they have a lot of passion. This is very good – I think we have a great potential in the car, the team, it’s a great package.”
