ComtoyouRacing’s Maxime Potty says he was very pleased to score his first TCR Europe podium in race one at Spa-Francorchamps.
The Belgian has enjoyed a very positive weekend so far at his home circuit, finishing second behind Jean-Karl Vernay in every session including the race.
He told TouringCars.Net he felt he had good pace throughout the race, although he was unable to mount a real challenge to Vernay’s lead.
“I’m happy because it’s my first ever podium in TCR Europe,” said Maxime. “It’s a great position for us.
“I had good pace and the same sort of start as Jean-Karl. We were happy with P2.”
In the opening laps Potty kept Vernay honest, but the 2017 TCR International Series champion edged clear throughout the race despite struggling with high levels of tyre degradation in the closing stages.
Potty will start from ninth position on the grid in tomorrow’s reverse-grid race, for which Reece Barr has pole in his Target Competition Hyundai i30 N TCR.
When asked about his expectations for tomorrow’s race, Potty laughed: “Hopefully I can go for the podium again!”
The second race gets underway at 11:20 CEST (10:20 BST.)
