Dan Lloyd says his fifth successive TCR UK Touring Car Championship victory ‘means a lot’ as the WestCoast Racing driver tries to secure backing to complete the full season.
The Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR racer now holds a commanding 80 point advantage in the standings after recovering from a poor start to edge out Pyro Motorsport’s Ollie Taylor in the Brands Hatch opener.
Though he’ll start from the fifth row courtesy of a partially reversed grid for race two – scheduled to get underway at 15:45 BST – the former British Touring Car Championship and TCR International Series racer has already won twice from the same position at Silverstone and Knockhill.
“I was angry with myself that I got caught out at the start and bogged down, Ollie [Taylor] managed to pass me so fair play,” conceded Lloyd.
“I got quite a big hit at Druids and was so close to spinning round, luckily I held it.
“It was just about settling down and watching where Ollie was quick and where he wasn’t, I chose my spot two or three laps before and knew what I was going to do, I just made sure it stuck.
“It was really tough and there was a lot of pickup on the track as well – the worst thing was thinking about picking up a puncture – the sound was awful.
“We’ve got a lot going on in the background to keep me going for the rest of the year, some new sponsors may be coming on board, so yeah, it means a lot.”
