The first round of the seven-event TCR Europe series will begin at Circuit Paul Ricard in France this weekend, with 26 cars entered for the first event, representing seven different brands.
The series has been created to build upon the single event Cup which was held at the end of 2017 at the Adria International Raceway.
The schedule features visits to some of Europe’s most prestigious venues, and drivers from 15 different European countries have entered into the new series.
“We are very pleased, because the new European series puts itself as the perfect accomplishment of the TCR philosophy,” explained promoter Paulo Ferreira. “In fact, competitors are coming from eight different series and among them there is also a fair amount of TCR champions.”
Represented on the grid are all of the previous TCR International Series champions, with two-time champion Stefano Comini and 2017 champion Jean-Karl Vernay being late additions to the grid.
Elsewhere two-time TCR Germany champion Josh Files is moving into a new Honda, with 2017 TCR International runner-up Attila Tassi as his team-mate. 2016 ETCC title holder Kris Richard is also represented in a Target Competition Hyundai. Two-time TCR Portugal champion Francisco Mora is joined by TCR Iberico champion Francisco Abreu.
There are also a number of TCR Italy drivers on the grid for this weekend, including TCR Italy champion Nicola Baldan, in preparation for the series’ visit to the south of France circuit one week later.
