Two-time TCR International Series champion Stefano Comini will be absent from the grid for this weekend’s TCR Europe races at Zandvoort after electing to change away from running a Subaru WRX STi car.
Comini ran a Top Run Motorsport-built Subaru in the first round of TCR Europe at Circuit Paul Ricard earlier in the month, securing a best finish of tenth in the second race, having started from 25th on the grid.
Stefano Fecchio, Team Manager of the new Switzerland-based team Race Republic which runs Comini’s car, explained that the team had already been thinking about a change of car.
“When we were at Le Castellet we began evaluating the opportunity of working with a different team and a different car,” explained Fecchio. “We hoped to be ready to race in Zandvoort, but there was not enough time to get everything ready properly.
“Therefore we have elected to skip this event in order to be well prepared for the next one at Spa.”
Although Comini won’t race at Zandvoort, he will be in attendance at the second round of the series in The Netherlands.
“It is a way to show our fans that we are working to come back in Spa,” said Comini. “We will announce with which team and car in the coming days.”
