Sean Walkinshaw will take over behind the wheel of his team’s Honda Civic TCR car at this weekend’s TCR UK races at Knockhill, with regular racer Howard Fuller unable to take part in the event.
The 24-year-old Super GT race winner will make his début in TCR machinery at the Scottish circuit, which will be running on its anti-clockwise configuration for the second event of TCR UK.
“I’m really looking forward to visiting Knockhill for the first time”, said Walkinshaw, who last raced in the UK in the Silverstone round of the 2016 Blancpain Endurance Cup. “It’s going to be a pretty big departure from what I’m used to in Super GT and endurance racing.
“I’ve never raced a front-wheel drive car before, so there’s a bit to learn, although I did test a couple of months ago. I’m sure we’ll be up to speed pretty quickly, it should be a lot of fun.
“Using the anti-clockwise direction at the weekend makes it a bit more of a level playing field for me having never been there before.
“It’s been a long time since the guys in the team last went to Knockhill as well. Ken [Page – SWR team principal] was last there 20 years ago in the Super Touring era of the BTCC with my dad and TWR, so we’re all really looking forward to it.”
Fuller is expected to return to TCR UK for the third meeting at Brands Hatch in June.
