Alex Morgan will return a Renault touring car to UK shores in a touring car racing championship for the first time since 2002 when he enters the third TCR UK event of the season at Brands Hatch this weekend.
Morgan, a TCR Germany regular, took part in the opening round of the ADAC series in April with Wolf-Power Racing, before skipping the second event in the Czech Republic.
After a successful test at Hockenheim, the team have decided to take the car, built by Vuković Motorsport and featuring a 1.8-litre engine developed by Lehmann Motorentechnik, to the UK for the first time, as development continues on the newest TCR car.
The team plan to return to TCR Germany for the third event at the Red Bull Ring the following weekend, making the event at Brands Hatch ideally placed for extra development work.
“It’s really exciting to be back racing in the UK, particularly at Brands Hatch where I’ve won three of the four races I’ve entered,” said Brit Morgan. “I’m helping to develop the Mégane TCR and so it’ll be interesting to see how the car performs after the recent changes.
‘We have to remember that the Renault is still new and so we have to be realistic about our chances of a good result. The car’s build quality is great but we need to see where we are in terms of speed. We won’t know for certain until qualifying on Saturday but being back on home soil will certainly be an incentive for me to do well and get a decent result from the weekend.”
The last time a Renault featured in a UK touring car series was when Rob Collard campaigned a Clio in Class B of the BTCC in 2001 and 2002.
