BMW rookie Joel Eriksson impressed during his début Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters race weekend at Hockenheim, having fought for victory in only his second race, but also impressed with his qualifying prowess.
The Swede, who is currently sixth in the standings, felt unsatisfied with his performance, due to feeling that the podium was within his grasp.
“Hockenheim was great and I’m happy to have performed at that level,” admitted the Formula 3 graduate, who has not raced at Lausitz since competing there in 2015 in ADAC Formula 4.
The 19-year-old, who was part of the BMW Motorsport Junior program last year, is sixth in the overall standings with 13 points, along with leading the rookie contingent that have joined the DTM this year.
Nevertheless, the Team RBM driver is respectful of how competitive the series is, and is still clearly driven to succeed.
“I’m racing to win and will never be entirely satisfied until I do, no matter how stiff the competition.
“I need to keep my head down and hopefully I will be competitive again this weekend.”
Team RBM, which has both Eriksson and 2012 champion Bruno Spengler for this season, will also look for better results this weekend, as Bert Mampaey’s Mechelen-based outfit are fifth in the team standings.
