Speedworks Motorsport’s Tom Ingram made up positions after getting through the opening lap “melee” in the first round of the 2018 British Touring Car Championship.
The 2017 Independents champion admitted he was at risk of getting caught up in incidents at the start from ninth on the grid, but told TouringCars.Net he was very pleased with a fourth place finish.
“It was looking like it was going to be a bit difficult for us to get a decent result just because starting in ninth you’re right in the mix – right where it normally kicks off.
“I’m very pleased to have got through the melee which was going on ahead of me which I managed to avoid, but we’re in a good position.”
Looking ahead to the second race of the day, Ingram will carry 48kg of success ballast.
Unlike others, the 24-year-old is actually looking forward to racing with a heavier Toyota Avensis.
“It was good to get some decent points and it means we can get some weight back in the car which is really good, because the car feels much better with weight in than it does without.
“So we’re in a good position for race two.”
With that in mind, Ingram is hoping to progress further in round two, but admits it will not be an easy task.
“The guys ahead are very very quick so it’s going to be difficult to try to match those but we’ll do a little bit of work in between now and race two and get the setup how we want it and hopefully be in the mix for race two.”
