TCR Europe will introduce a dedicated category for cars fitted with a Direct-Shift Gearbox (DSG) for the 2018 season, organizers have confirmed.
The DSG Challenge will follow the same points scale as the overall championship, starting at 25 for the race victory down to a single point in tenth.
The class victor in each race will also be invited on the podium alongside the top three finishers, where applicable.
A prize for winning the challenge is set to be announced. A similar initiative recently adopted in the new-for-2018 TCR UK Touring Car Championship rewards the fastest DSG entrant at the end of the season with a free upgrade to a sequential gearbox, worth approximately £20,000.
A separate class for DSG cars was, in fact, part of the TCR Europe Trophy at Adria last season, with Giovanni Altoe victorious behind the wheel of a Volkswagen Golf GTi.
The seven-event TCR Europe Series gets underway at Le Castellet, Paul Ricard on 04-05 May.
