Mehdi Bennani lost his fifth place in the opening FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) race in Morocco after being given a 10-second penalty for contact with Esteban Guerrieri, dropping him to ninth.
Bennani made contact with the rear of Münnich Motorsport’s Guerrieri on the opening lap of the race, forcing the Argentine wide at Turn 1 and dropping him two positions.
With the positions not changing back during the race, stewards decided to give Bennani a 10-second post-race penalty, dropping him from fifth to ninth.

That move also promoted Audi Sport Leopard Lukoil’s Gordon Shedden to fifth, Guerrieri to sixth, fellow Honda racer Yann Ehrlacher to seventh and DG Sport Compétition’s Aurélien Comte to eighth.
