Andrew Jordan believes the mistake at Druids on lap one that allowed Dan Cammish to put a buffer between the BMW Pirtek Racing driver and the leaders ultimately cost him a shot at victory.
The 2013 champion and team-mate Colin Turkington were able to leapfrog a slow-starting Sam Tordoff off the line into second and third respectively, but Jordan slid wide at Paddock Hill Bend in the greasy conditions and allowed Cammish’s Honda Civic Type R FK7 to get underneath him on the run into Druids.
Though he would eventually re-pass the debutante at Paddock later in the race before pulling comfortably clear, the lost time spent behind the Honda undoubtedly cost the BMW 1-series its chance at victory.
“It was a good race but a hard one in these conditions,” said Jordan.
“I made a bit of a mistake at Druids on lap one which allowed Dan (Cammish) past and that meant I lost touch with the two leaders.
“The car was really good, I had good pace after I got past him. I’m really happy to start with a podium for BMW Pirtek Racing.”
The second race at Brands Hatch this afternoon will mark Jordan’s 300th in the BTCC – and one he is aiming to take victory in.
“It’s my 300th race next,” added Jordan “It’d be great to go and win it. I’ve been here 11 years and I’m still only 28. I’m privileged and proud to be here.”
