Jack Goff believes ‘great chassis’ gave him Brands Hatch pole

Eurotech Racing’s Jack Goff says he thinks the chassis of his Honda Civic Type R was the main reason for him scoring pole position ahead of today’s British Touring Car Championship races.

The squad has switched from Swindon/TOCA to Neil Brown Engineering engines for 2018, and Goff told TouringCars.net his pole shows that strong showings at the tail end of last season were not simply due to the engine.

“In a weird way everyone last year said ‘Oh it’s because of the engine we had in the car’ last year and that was why we were getting poles,” said Goff.

“But we’ve changed our engine, and we still got pole position. So it’s a testament to all the guys and girls at Eurotech because our chassis is brilliant – it was great last year, and that was where our time was.”

Although Goff wants to convert pole into a race win later today, he is also keen to get a solid points haul from the opening weekend.

“The season is thirty races long. But on the other hand I want to win my first race this weekend so I will certainly get my elbows out and make sure we go for it.

“But knowing full well I shouldn’t do any stupid mistakes or do any stupid lunges for no need.”

“As I say it’s a long, long championship. But I certainly won’t make it easy for anybody and we’re going to go out there and try to get a good result.”

Eurotech teammate Matt Simpson had his best ever qualifying in the BTCC in eigth, while Brett Smith secured tenth position.

These performances from all three drivers has given Goff confidence that the team can carry this momentum into today’s races.

“It helps the team, we’re pushing each other forward. It looks good for TV – all the Eurotech boys in the top ten – that’s great.

“But the most important thing as I say is we convert these good positions into good results tomorrow.”

With damp conditions at the circuit this morning, Goff says unpredictable weather conditions will not change his approach to the weekend.

“It is what it is. One or the other would be nice, fully wet or fully dry.

“But like I say we’ll drive to the conditions – we’ll make do with what we’ve got.”
