WestCoast Racing’s Andreas Bäckman was left pleased after taking his first TCR UK Touring Car Championship podium in the final race at Silverstone.
The Swede put pressure on the Laser Tools Racing Alfa Romeo of Aiden Moffat for the majority of the race after the former passed him on the outside at Becketts, with the two making slight contact on occasion.
A late engine problem for the Scot, however, gave the Volkswagen Golf GTi racer the opportunity to claim the runner-up spot, completing a WestCoast 1-2.
“It was a really good race. It was very difficult to pass Aiden but then his car broke down so it was free for me to go into second place,” said Bäckman.
“Sometimes the racing between us was a little bit close, but that’s the point of touring car racing. I’m very happy with this race, and also the one before. Thank you to everybody at WestCoast Racing for preparing such great cars for this weekend.”
It remains unclear whether the outfit will continue to the second meeting at Knockhill on 12-13 May, but TouringCars.net understands their participation is possible due to a lack of date clashes with the STCC.
