Tiago Monteiro says he is ‘still not fully recovered’ despite taking part in his first test since the accident which ended his 2017 season, taking to the track at Monza in a new Honda this week.
Monteiro will race for the Boutsen Ginion team in this year’s FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR), and he got his first taste of the new JAS Motorsport-built Civic this week.
The Portuguese racer completed a dozen laps of the venue, completing the planned program, to assess his physical and visual capabilities.
“It’s good to be back, despite all the precautions required at this stage,” said Monteiro. “I felt good physically, but I know I’m not 100%. I still have not fully recovered my vision.
“I will continue to work hard and carefully follow the recovery program set up by the doctors who look after me. For now, everything indicates that I should be fully recovered for the first race of the year.”
Monteiro has just four weeks to prepare himself for the first race of the season in Morocco on the 8th April 2018.
