Luca Engstler will partner with Diego Moran in the 2018 TCR Asia Series season, after the reigning TCR Middle East champion chose to dovetail his TCR Germany campaign with the Asian series.
With no clashing dates between TCR Asia and TCR Germany, and Liqui Moly Team Engstler already involved in both championships, the 18-year-old has decided to try to tackle three full TCR seasons in the same calendar year.
“I am proud that we can involve Luca in the Asia project,” said Kurt Treml, Sports and Marketing Director for Engstler Motorsport. “Especially for young drivers, it is important to complete many race kilometers.
“With Diego Moran he has a team colleague at his side, who already knows all racetracks from 2017 and has presented himself as an absolute team player.
“Luca knows the car perfectly and is highly motivated after the successful start to the season in the Middle East. That we have no overlap with the ADAC TCR Germany, this has us made our decision easier.”
Engstler Motorsport are also planning an expanded TCR Asia campaign in 2018, with a third car set to join the ranks of the German team.
“Our thanks go to our partners Volkswagen, LIQUI MOLY, Remus and Pagid,” added Treml, who says an announcement is expected within the next few days. “They have all supported our projects for years.
“Of course, our stated goal is as well to take the title this year, in both the team and the drivers’ standings.”
