John Filippi led a Campos Racing 1-2 in the official pre-season test for the FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) at the Circuit de Barcelona in Spain, ahead of team-mate Pepe Oriola.
Filippi completed the most laps of any driver during the seven hours of testing, with his CUPRA completing 101 laps, including 45 during the afternoon session.
The Frenchman was over two tenths clear of his next nearest rival, local Spaniard Oriola, having posted his fastest run inside the final hour of the session.
Two of the Comtoyou Racing Audi drivers were next up, with Aurélien Panis in third ahead of Nathanaël Berthon in fourth, the duo being more than a second off Filippi’s fastest lap.
Yann Ehrlacher was the leading Honda driver in fifth for Münnich Motorsport, ahead of Audi Sport Team Comtoyou’s Frédéric Vervisch in sixth.
The sole Volkswagen representative, due to Rob Huff being absent with a virus, was Sébastien Loeb Racing’s Mehdi Bennani in seventh, ahead of the all-new Peugeot 308 of Aurélien Comte in eighth.
Tiago Monteiro’s young stand-in, Benjamin Lessennes, put his Boutsen Ginion Racing Honda in ninth, ahead of the second DG Sport Peugeot of Mat’o Homola in tenth.
Intriguingly, none of the former touring car champions made it into the top ten during the testing, with the leading title holder being BRC’s Gabriele Tarquini in 11th, who was also the quickest of the Hyundai drivers.
Gianni Morbidelli made it seven different brands inside the top 12 with a lap time 1.5 seconds off the pace in his Team Mulsanne Alfa Romeo.
The WTCR season kicks off in Morocco on 7 – 8 April.
