James Thomspon has been unveiled as Münnich Motorsport’s third entry into the new-for-2018 FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR), piloting one of the team’s Honda Civic Type R FK8 machines.
The double British Touring Car Champion joins Yann Ehrlacher and Esteban Guerrieri, but it remains unconfirmed whether his programme will cover the entire season with boss René Münnich also expected to race this year.
Thompson, who has four race victories to his name in the now-defunct World Touring Car Championship that WTCR replaces, was unveiled to the media at the championship’s official Media Launch in Barcelona on Wednesday [28th March].
The Brit explained at the launch that he had received the call-up from Münnich just this week and that it took him “just 30 seconds” to make a decision.
The season itself gets underway in Marrakesh, Morocco, over the weekend of 7-8 April.
