John Filippi will contest the inaugural FIA World Touring Car Cup season after agreeing a deal to run a Cupra – SEAT’s new brand – with Campos Racing.
The 23-year old has four seasons of experience in the now-suspended World Touring Car Championship to his record, having driven a Citroen C-Elysee for Sebastien Loeb Racing in 2017.
His best career results thus far have been fourth place in last years events in China and Qatar respectively.
The deal marks a return to Campos, with whom he ran with between 2014-16 in first a SEAT Leon, and then a Chevrolet Cruze.
“I’m really happy to sign up again with Campos Racing,” commented Filippi.
“They made contact with me at the end of the 2017 season. They knew how to mount a coherent and promising project for the future.
“I’m looking forward to getting in the car for the first few tests. Participating in this 2018 championship is probably one of the biggest challenges of my career, it is the logical continuation of my career”.
A full capacity grid of 26 cars is expected for the inaugural WTCR season, which gets underway in Marrakesh on the 28-29 April, 2018.
