Gordon Shedden and last year’s TCR International Series champion Jean-Karl Vernay will lead Team WRT’s campaign in the 2018 FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) in a pair of Audi RS3 LMS cars.
Comtoyou Racing had already announced that they would run a trio of Audi RS3s for Belgian Denis Dupont, Frenchman Aurélien Panis and the recently announced Belgian Frédéric Vervisch.
A fourth Audi for Comtoyou Racing will be entered for 28-year-old Frenchman Nathanaël Berton, who was the 2016/17 Trophée Andros ice racing champion.
Now WRT have confirmed a move to Audi machinery, having spent the past two seasons racing Volkswagen Golf GTi cars in the TCR International Series.
WRT have a long history of running Audi machinery in a customer racing capacity, having raced Audi R8 cars since 2010 in GT3 competition.
Both Shedden and Vernay have been awarded Audi Sport driver status as a result of the 2018 campaign.
“We look forward to the strong competition in the new racing series which is an attractive stage for many manufacturers in touring car racing,” said Head of Audi Sport customer racing Chris Reinke.
“Our teams and drivers bring valuable experiences from touring car racing and other disciplines to the grid, so we intend to battle for the titles in the drivers’ and teams’ classifications.”
The WTCR season kicks off in Marrakech on the 7th and 8th April 2018.
