Aurélien Panis has been named as the second Comtoyou Racing driver for the forthcoming FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) season, alongside his earlier-announced team-mate Denis Dupont.
Panis competed in part-seasons in both the World Touring Car Championship and TCR International Series in 2017, achieving more success in the latter where he was victorious in the second race in Thailand.
The 23-year-old Frenchman is looking forward to moving into WTCR, where he will race an Audi RS3 LMS TCR alongside his Belgian team-mate.
“I am delighted to join Comtoyou Racing and Audi for this inaugural season of WTCR,” said Frenchman Panis. “The team is very professional and able to fight for the top positions. I’m eager to start testing the Audi and can’t wait for the season to kick off.”
Comtoyou Racing Team Manager François Verbist has already seen some of Panis’ talent as part of the team in the Andros Trophy winter ice racing event.
“Aurélien is a skilled driver and he shows us every week in the Andros Trophy’s Electric class,” said Verbist. “Together with Audi Sport we will do our best to give him a competitive car and be sure that the Marseillaise will be played during the WTCR podium ceremonies. Now we can start testing!”
